Father, A Moment With You — The Story Behind Our Most Personal Album

Father A Moment With You The Petersens album

Father, A Moment With You, our new album, is finally here!

We have been sitting with this music for a while now, and getting to share it with you feels like Christmas morning. “Father, A Moment With You” consists of eleven songs rooted in faith, inspired by real moments, real conversations, and real seasons of life where God showed up in ways we will never forget.

We would love to tell you some of the stories behind it.

Where This Album Came From

Over the years, so many of you have stopped us after shows, sent us messages, and shared what you are walking through — whether it be struggles with your faith, a hard season, times when you were at a low point, but then God showed up and somehow our music was a part of that. Those conversations have meant more to us than you know. And honestly, they are a big part of why we made this album.

Our faith has always been the cornerstone of our family. While we love playing all kinds of songs, the ones that move us most deeply are the ones about what we believe. This album is a collection of exactly that — seven original songs, three beloved hymns, and one beautiful song written by a dear friend that we got to arrange.

Several of these songs were born directly from conversations with you. In a very real way, you helped write this album.

The Stories Behind the Songs

“Father, A Moment With You”

This is the song that gave the album its name, and it is one of the most personal things Katie has ever written.

She wrote it during a season of doubt when the Lord felt far away and the closeness she had known with Him all her life seemed distant. One afternoon, while she was sitting at the piano playing through hymns, she felt His presence deeply and felt God telling her that He had never left her and had been with her all the time.

She was so excited to feel His presence again she started writing down what it felt like to dwell in God’s presence. She wanted to capture it not just for herself, but for the next time she or someone else would need the reminder that He is still there.

If you have ever walked through a season where God felt distant, this song is for you.

“Come Back Home”

This song is so special to us. It was born from a conversation Katie had with someone after the show. When Katie was asking about their relationship with God, they said they had disappointed God too much for him to have a relationship with them.

The truth is, many of us have felt that way, BUT God’s heart is always for His children to come back to Him. No matter how far we have wandered.

The lyrics begin with two beautiful questions:

“Do you think you’ve gone too far for the hand of God to reach you? Is the shepherd ever angry at the lost?”

The answer, of course, is no. If you would like to know more about the heart of God towards you, we cannot recommend the book Gentle and Lowly enough!

“Not Afraid of Bad News”

This song was written after a conversation with a dear family friend. He had just told us the sickness that was once gone had now returned to his body.

The very next day, Katie was reading Scripture and came across Psalm 112:7:

“He is not afraid of bad news; his heart is firm, trusting in the Lord.”

Katie wrote the chorus and then Emmett brought some Bible stories that show God’s power for the verses. These are moments when God’s people faced the impossible and trusted anyway. The first verse draws from a lesser-known story in 2 Kings 6 that is absolutely worth looking up if you are not familiar with it.

If you or someone you love is facing scary news right now, we pray this song gives you something solid to hold onto.

Eleven Songs. One Message.

Every song on this album — the originals, the hymns, the song from our friend — points toward the same truth: God is faithful. He sees you. He has not forgotten you. And He is closer than you think.

We hope when you listen, you feel His presence, His love, and the joy we had creating this music for you.
