Description
Writing music has been a favorite hobby of mine for years. The Lord has given me songwriting as a way of processing joy, pain, questions, loneliness, and all the feelings in between. I consider this gift from Him as one of the most precious things I will know in this life, and getting to share that with you is sharing a part of myself. I am filled with gratitude for my incredible family and friends who have walked with me through more than a decade of creating music and listening to draft after draft of “another song idea” (you know who you are). This dream of mine never would have happened without you!

This album was everything I could have imagined and more! Full versions of previously released piano-only songs as well as some very catchy new tunes. I can’t stop smiling while listening to this!
So far my favorites include “Airplane Mode”, “Faux Fur”, and “A-Tisket A-Tasket”, but really, they are all fantastic. I also love hearing the voices of “the other Petersens and friends” and the way you all support each other’s musical endeavors outside the band. If I could give this album 100 stars, I would. Wow! I was expecting this to be good given Katie’s vocals with the band but this is awesome. A fantastic album filled with songs with wonderful melodies and a depth that shows a maturity in Katie’s song writing. After 1 listen i had tunes stuck in my head and there has been no decreasing of delight after many more listens. Katie’s angelic voice shines through and is a fitting match to the quality of the songs. One of the very best (if not THE best) debut albums I have heard. Hope there are lots more to come (as well as lots more Petersens albums too of course). Thank you Katie.

This is an excellent album. It sounds very diferrent to the Petersens. “What I ll do ” is an excellent song!! I like others ” airplane mode” and “faur fux”. A very good debut solo album.

Three years ago Katie Petersen released her solo album “I wrote you a song.” Although I was familiar with several of the songs from the Petersen versions on YouTube, I’d never heard Katie’s album from beginning to end until I purchased it during a visit to Branson.
The album is an intricately crafted collection of songs that examine love relationships from every angle and emotion. Songs that break your heart or at least bring a tear or two to your eyes. Songs that make you laugh along with Katie’s light hearted, clever lyrics. And songs that expose a tougher side of Katie, that make you want to shout, “You go girl!”
The album contains several beautiful ballads. Katie is a master at these. Two, “Sherwood” and “Airplane Mode”, are Katie classics and have been covered by the Petersens in live versions on YouTube. Another ballad, “I’d Call Home”, opens the album. It’s my favorite. I interpret it as an apology and a plea to change the past. If you’ve ever made a decision in a relationship that is irreversible and you regret it, this is your song. The last song on the album, “What’ll I Do?”, is a sweeping heartfelt ballad that I interpret being about strength, courage, and overcoming one’s fear about heartbreak and love rejection, but ultimately realizing everything will turn out just fine, “if I learn to use my wings now what’ll they do, and I guess all of this is thanks to you, I guess the skies I thought were grey, just might be blue.” Ok, maybe it’s my favorite.
“Waiting on You to Grow Up” and “A-tisket A-tasket” are light hearted, hopeful love songs, with the ultimate resolution that “this relationship isn’t going to work out”. “Bye Bye Baby” is an upbeat “I’ve moved on” love song that has some of the most clever, chuckle inducing lyrics on the album: “do you want to say I do, well I don’t, not to you”, “have you come to hear the news, I’ve got a man and he’s not you”, and “when you finally changed your mind, funny thing I changed mine too.”
Katie further puts on display her songwriting prowess with an instrumental “Farewell Waltz”, and the most blunt “I’ve had enough” song on the album, “Faux Fur”, where see goes “no holds barred” on her muse: “if real love poured rain, you would be a drought”, “are your hands made of wax, is your heart made of stone”, “this may sound drastic, but are you a man”, “what hurts like a headache, but doesn’t have brains”, “in the gym everyday without any gains, it’s you, it’s you, it’s you!” Helen Reddy is cheering from heaven.
